Sustainability
at Towa
Sustainability is one of the pillars that gives meaning to everything we do at Towa International. It is deeply integrated into our Ikigai and guides every decision we make.
Our inspiration: Sanpō-yoshi and Mitsuha
As a Japanese-origin company, we are inspired by the Sanpō-yoshi (三方良し) philosophy, which means “good for the three sides”: every action must generate value for the producer, the receiver, and society as a whole. From this vision comes our sustainability symbol, Mitsuha (三つ葉), meaning “the three leaves” in Japanese. A natural figure representing harmony, health, and growth, symbolizing our ESG strategy and making sustainability a transversal lever of our corporate strategy, structured around the three core ESG pillars:
ENVIRONMENT
Minimizing our environmental impact and reconverting it into renewable.
SOCIAL
Protecting the health, equity and well-being of our people.

GOVERNANCE
Assuming responsibility for our activity beyond legal obligations, protecting people’s health.
Our philosophy is to grow in a balanced, transversal, and sustainable way.
Our environmental commitment
Climate change and energy efficiency
At Towa International, we acknowledge that every activity generates an environmental impact, and we work to reduce it in a tangible and measurable way. We implement a variety of initiatives to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and promote a circular economy. Key initiatives include:
Installation
of new, more efficient GEAs.
Integration of climate-control and process GEA networks.
Improvements in
air-compressor management software.
Optimization of lighting and compressed
air systems.
Our carbon
footprint
Thanks to these actions, in the last fiscal year 2024, we continued advancing in our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint:
- We have achieved a 60% reduction in our own emissions (scopes 1 and 2).
- And an 18% reduction in our global carbon footprint (scopes 1, 2, and 3) compared to our base year (2019).

Waste management and circular economy
At Towa International, we work every day to minimize our environmental impact and promote circular economy practices across all our operations.
Our objective is to be NetZero.
Thanks to our sustainable waste management initiatives, we have increased our recovery rate, reaching 67%.
This means that more than two-thirds of our waste is directed to recycling or recovery processes, contributing to a more efficient use of resources and the protection of the environment.
We are also members of different associations for waste management. In Spain, we are affiliated with SIGRE for the management of pharmaceutical packaging waste, and with ECOEMBES for parapharmacy product packaging. This allows us to ensure the proper collection and recycling of the packaging placed on the market. In Portugal, we are affiliated with Sociedade Ponto Verde. In Italy, we are affiliated with CONAI (Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi), the national consortium responsible for packaging waste management.

.
Renewable energy
Since 2015, we have operated the largest photovoltaic installation in Catalonia and the second largest in Spain. Today, it covers 100% of the available surface of our production plant, supporting our transition toward 100% renewable energy.
Sustainable mobility
Additionally, we promote sustainable mobility through the full electrification of our commercial fleet in Portugal and providing electric vehicle charging stations at our production plant and office parking facilities in Martorelles, Barcelona. We also offer shuttle bus services for our employees.

Water management
At Towa International we protect natural resources, and water is one of the strategic pillars of our work. We have defined commitments and specific objectives to ensure responsible use of this resource and reduce consumption.
