Towa International receives Elena Casaus, the new secretary general of AESEG, at its international hub
Barcelona, September 25, 2025. Towa International, the international hub of Towa Pharmaceutical, a leading company in the generic drug market in Japan, has received the visit of Elena Casaus, recently appointed secretary general of the Spanish Association of Generic Medicines (AESEG).
During the meeting, Casaus met with David Peix, CEO of Towa International, and João Paulo Nascimiento, Chief Commercial Officer B2C of the company, as well as visiting the production plant in Martorelles (Barcelona).
David Peix, CEO of the company, highlighted: “It has been an honor to share our vision with the Secretary General of AESEG and her team. At Towa International, we work to provide high-quality, affordable generic medicines to patients around the world. Spain is a European leader in generic medicines and a model of industrial excellence, which is why now more than ever it is important to showcase the strength and value of our industry.”
The visit also brought together AESEG and Equalmed (Portuguese Association of Medicines for Equity in Health), chaired by João Paulo Nascimiento, to analyze Portugal’s success story. In 2023, the Portuguese Government implemented measures to facilitate access to medicines and avoid shortages, such as price adjustments and annual reviews, which have strengthened the sustainability of the generics market.
“Generic medicines are essential to ensuring equitable access to healthcare and strengthening the sustainability of the healthcare system. Portugal’s experience shows that, with appropriate policies and public-private collaboration, their benefits for patients and society as a whole can be maximized,” said João Paulo Nascimiento.
